As far back as I can remember, I’ve loved looking through photos. As a child, I’d flip through my baby album and all the family albums stacked on the shelves. We had movie nights gathered around the old projector, watching our lives play out on Super 8 film. Every time the bulb melted the reels, my dad would splice them back together so we could watch again. There was a drawer filled with loose snapshots from my parents’ childhoods and even earlier generations. By the time we sold our childhood home, there were 180 framed photos hanging on the walls or sitting on shelves—our family history everywhere you looked.
Those moments planted a lifelong love of photographs and the stories they hold. When my sisters and I inherited the boxes of albums and reels, I felt the weight—and the privilege—of being the family memory-keeper.
As technology changed, so did my mission. I converted everything—first to CDs, then thumb drives, then hard drives. But along the way, tragedy struck, and we lost our earliest digital images and videos. That loss made me even more determined to protect what we had left.
Eventually, I found a solution that gave me peace of mind: a secure cloud archive I own and control. I went back through and reconverted every photo and video, knowing this time it would last. Now, our family’s story is safe, protected, and always just a click away ready to be shared with the generations to come.
